TBH,
my first try in Dust Beta was going like this: Paid for PSnetwork Plus. to get into Beta.
Downloaded for hours. Installed, downloaded some more (more hours) started the game. "Captains Quarters" openend and i was a bit -- down after that. Did a bit walking around, not very intuitive but so what.
Chose my battle-outfit and took the "Instant Battle" Route.
Worked very well up to this point. no Hickups, no glitches, all great.
After a few seconds I was asked to choose ma spawn point ? Took the standard one because I didnt know better.
Got killed 3 seconds later....3 times.
Chose a different spawn point...
got killed 3 seconds later.... 4 times.
next step: ragequit deinstalled.
yesterday: downloaded again. will try again.
no way that my poor skills with a controller and my total lack of understanding of game mechanics will hinder me in getting a full view of the game.
reason: if dust wins, eve wins. and i love the idea that one time i can get more planets to work PI for me because i can hire a bunch of maniacs attacking and conqering those planets...

Reds around your spawn point means there are enemies waiting nearby.

that's called spawn camping, and it's a staple of nearly every fps ever. welcome to the genre. Say you have a mate, say he has some brains. Maybe you can work your way around the camping issue.
nice genre then :-) and yeah i heard that teamplay is an essential factor in playing these games :-) thx |

that's called spawn camping, and it's a staple of nearly every fps ever. welcome to the genre. Not just FPS - any PVP game with unbalanced "sides". It was very common in WAR, it happened in WoW, it kind of happens in eve when people camp the undock. It's fun for a while if you get to do the camping, but it gets boring after a while. The best PVP is more balanced.
regarding spawn camping: I remember spawn-kill-routes from Unreal Tournament. You would just run from one loot / player spawn to the next and kill everything on the way. regarding PVP balancing: have to strongly agree- especially eve PVP is not what it used to be. the day when blob warfare became the new pvp in eve still was the saddest day in eve-lution...i know its a viable strategy (whatever wroks wins is the best) but its ugly and requires no skill at all. just to be there.

i was playing Dust extensively during the weekend. not for days but so mch that i racked up some kills ...finally.
I still see the mechanics somewhat.... flawed.
the game itself seems to me as pay2win, as the good weapons and modules cost aurum. also players with distinct halo or PS3 / console shooter experience just pawn everyone on the map.
its just not balanced at all. movement and turning / aiming is brutally slow.
i have to admit I bight the merc pack just to get some stuff (and since I got a new job i can aforrd to spend for my hobby) but I seriously doubt i will train enough with the controller to be able to really enjoy the game.
and that-¦s what i would have to do: rack up ample training time to really stay alive. getting killed 8 times for every kill i inflict just aint fun.

well. you need SP to skill up and be en par. and money to buy weapons to be en par with all the rest.
you can now either
grind your ass out or pay aurum , which costs RL-money.
so, imagine not everyone has a job where 4 hours / day will suffice. so grinding is out of the question. so he needs to get aurum to be en par.
lets say he grinds his ass out. yeah he-¦s en par.
but only with those who do one of those options.
what about those players, who grind like kids in a chinese sweatshop AND pay for aurum.
wouldnt those few elite players hold a distinct advantage over the others ?
so , please tell me again that ANY form of enabling the normal skill-development to be faster / better / advanced is not Pay2Win and does not give a distinct advantage and I will strongheartedly disagree.
also, I don-¦t think that the concept o skill development for item prerequsitites like in eve go well together with a real life skill needed of a FPS game. no matter how greta my game-skills that give me access to better items will be, i might as well drop down dead and surrender into POW status on the server once a lifelong Halo-Padawan or any other PS3 FPS veteran comes around. thats the basic realisation i came to when I last played the game.
